Brooklyn - Special Effects

"Hoppy lager" it says on the label, which may be confusing since it doesn't smell or taste like a "normal" lager. "Lagering" refers to a type of beer production - using a yeast that operates at a lower temperature (and at the bottom of the fermentation tank). In terms of the end product, this particular lager has more in common with an American Pale Ale (APA). It is a rich aubern colour with a thick and creamy off-white sustaining head. The aroma packs a real punch from the Citra, Mosaic and Amarillo hops used. There are intense notes of pine, orange, lime and passion fruit. And then on the tongue Special Effects is zesty with tropical fruits on a sweet malt base, which is followed by a crisp bite. The beer has a firm mouthfeel and the carbonation level is just right. An excellent APA. Sorry, lager.
