Insel-Brauerei - Skipper's Wet Hopped Pilsner
From Germany, comes this bottle conditioned pilsner which has a bronze-coloured body supporting a good white head but which decays quite quickly. Hops, yeast and some sour notes are apparent in the aroma, which is more prominent than one might expect of a pilsner beer. Taste-wise, it is a bold combination of citrus fruits (mainly grapefruit), herbs and just a touch of saltiness. Carbonation is moderate yet the mouthfeel is full bodied and lively. It is a zesty, tangy beverage and the (traditional, apparently) wet hopping before the lagering stage certainly boosts the flavour profile. The after-taste is slightly bitter and crisp.
