This Portuguese beer is a little difficult to categorise. "Preta" is Portuguese for "black" but it is not a stout in character. It is more akin to a Westphalian altbier or even a dark lager. The dark brown body and pale head suggest a porter. Go figure. The head soon subsides and there's little aroma to speak of - perhaps some maltiness. The mouthfeel is good and the taste is quite fruity. It's a clean, crisp drink so top marks for its thirst-quenching ability. Overall it lacks character but is a very pleasant brew, even if the style is somewhat evasive.
