BrewDog - Wake Up Call
If you are a vegan you need to avoid this - it contains milk sugar. If you don't drink anything containing caffeine then you also need to avoid this - it contains coffee (the caffeinated kind). Otherwise...read on. BrewDog is a brewery based in Aberdeenshire but, these days, it is very much a multi-national company. Apart from lactose and coffee, this stout also contains a variety of grains and the hop variety is Bramling Cross. In the glass it is as black as a stout can be, and has a caramel topping which persists as you drink. Unsurprisingly the aroma is of coffee and the taste is similarly of roasted beans, but also with notes of vanilla and a touch of blackcurrant. The body is moderately firm and the finish is stout-dry. Wake Up Call is one of the better coffee stouts, as much a smooth stout as a coffee.
