Coast - Farmhouse Ale
This ale is from the Coast Beer Co in Edinburgh, via the De Proefbrouwerij brewery in Belgium. Presumably it is given the moniker "farmhouse" to declare its style heritage - the beer uses EKG (East Kent Golding) hops, which date back to the late 18th century. The malts are pilsner, pale ale and wheat. It looks the part too - a ruddy brown beer with a thick foamy topping. Perhaps not so traditionally it is a vegan product. The aromas are unusual - apple, herbs and earthiness. In the mouth, the unexpected continues - the taste is malty but also tart enough to almost be sour. Definitely a beer for those who are looking for something out of the ordinary.
