Ollenaut - Smoked Porter
Ollenaut is a new brewery, based in Estonia. This 0.5% ABV porter is described on the label as robust and the aroma is certainly assertive. It feels like you've just put your head (at a safe distance) above a wood burning stove. It's a vegan beer which looks very attractive in the glass - a rich dark ruby colour supporting a thick creamy coloured head. The taste is a fully smoked brew - wood, tobacco, nutty...and a touch of dates to soften it. The carbonation is quite light and perhaps the mouthfeel could be rather firmer. Porters were originally made to be thirst-quenchers for port workers in London, but the dry smokiness of the aftertaste means it's more of a sipping beer.
