Being German, Petra Wetzel is obviously keen on the German beer purity law of 1516 for the beers her brewery produce in Glasgow - and which means they are vegan-friendly. Nix pale ale is a copper-coloured affair using four malts and four post-boil hops - Lemon Drop, Mandarina Bavaria, Chinook and Saphir. The firm white head leaves plenty of lacework as one drinks, whilst the aroma is distinctly of pine and tangerine. These notes follow through to the taste, together with creamy malt and toffee. The finish is long and fruity, giving the ale a good range of traditional flavours - all squeezed into the 330 ml bottle.
