Big Drop - Kinzig Gateau Stout
The Ipswich brewery has gone for a liquid Black Forest Gateau with this stout, served not on a plate with a fork, but in a 440ml can. It's 0.5% ABV, it is GF but contains lactose so not for the vegan palate. The hop used is the Germany-derived Magnum, a very mild hop, as is indicated by the low IBU score of just 5. Cherry is the dominant aroma and remains so upon tasting, but not the sort of sour cherry one gets with a Belgian fruit beer. There is also a smooth chocolate flavour but I can't really detect any of the (promised) vanilla. Still, it is a very pleasant stout with a sweet profile right through to the finish and aftertaste, as one would expect from a liquid cake. The body is rather slight and the carbonation level is just about right.
