Tartarus - Moon Rabbit Vanilla and Tonka Stout
Tartarus is a new Yorkshire brewery that likes to focus on "strong and European style" beers. This however is a 0.5% ABV vegan stout, which as well as Willamette and Bramling Cross hops is flavoured with both vanilla and tonka. If, like me, you have to look up tonka, one finds that it is a type of bean, which looks rather like a raisin and is used in cooking for its potent (mainly vanilla) flavours. The 440ml can has great artwork (of a moon rabbit, obviously) and the rich liquid which pours forth creates a massive dense head that sits in the glass for a good while. The aroma is like dark chocolate - sweet but also with a dryness to it. Likewise the taste is of dark chocolate and vanilla along with a smoky coffeeish edge. The body is so thick I panicked to check it really was an AF beer and not one of the brewery's "strong" ones. The finish is as smooth as a toffee. Easily one of the best beers I've had, alcoholic or not.
